Guide
New users sign up, then land back on the login page or see an error
Updated
Someone signs up, and instead of getting in they end up back on the sign-up or login page. Or they try to log in and get an error. They try again, it happens again, and they leave.
Why it happens
Sign-in services decide who may get in and where to send them afterwards, and the defaults are built for testing.
Possible causes
- The account is not confirmed yet: most services make new people confirm their email first, so a missing or late confirmation email looks like a loop.
- The live address is not on the allowed list, so the service sends people to its default, which for Supabase starts as localhost.
- The app never finishes signing the person in: the page the email link returns to does not turn the one-time code into a session, or the link is opened in a different browser than the one that started it.
- Sign-up is switched off in the sign-in service ("Allow new users to sign up" in Supabase, "Disable sign-up" in Lovable).
You can't see it yourself
You're signed in, your customers aren't. You are already signed in, so you never go through the sign-up loop a new person sees.
