It works in the preview but breaks after I deploy
Updated
Everything worked while you were building. Then you deployed to Netlify, Vercel or your own domain, and something died: login, data, a page, or the whole app.
Why it happens
The preview is a comfortable bubble. Production is the real world, and four differences break apps most often.
Possible causes
- Missing settings: the preview had them and the live site does not: your builder keeps your keys in its own environment, and exporting or deploying the code does not copy them.
- Your login does not know the new address: sign-in services only send users back to trusted addresses, and your new domain is not one yet.
- Refreshing a page gives "Page not found": the host looks for a file that does not exist because the app handles pages itself.
- Links still point at the preview: buttons, emails or payment redirects still go to the preview address.
You can't see it yourself
You're signed in, your customers aren't. The preview works for you, so every one of these looks fine until a customer is the one using the live address.
